> Organising food bank

Offering non-perishable food to the needy through a national food bank seems to be a good move for the helpers and those being helped as well. However, the organisers should look into possible abuse when things are totally free. Individuals should bear some investment, like 20% of the actual cost, to prevent abuse or waste. This way, they will only take what they need. – ETLeong

> Medicine by post

The medicine delivery system by Pos Malaysia for hospitals is applauded as many retirees and the disabled have benefited from it. It would be appreciated if the Health Ministry also implements the service from Precinct 11 in Putrajaya. – Jit Singh, Seri Kembangan

> Safe practices

Shopping complex managements must ensure their premises are safe and secure for patrons. Circulate standard operating procedures on potential gas leaks to all staff and clients. – LeeHuiSeng

> Water bill query

Why do I have to pay the water bill for my vacant flat in Seremban? I am not using water there. What about my deposit?

> E-hailing grouses

Referring to Darshan Singh’s letter “Price control needed for e-hailing service” ( The Star, Nov 5), I totally support the introduction of a ceiling price and further suggest that this monopoly be broken by inviting new players in. I also think this is the right opportunity for taxi drivers to introduce an efficient system for calling them. I think people would not mind paying additional charges if they use the meter. – Ganapathy/Sam Since Grab took over Uber, service levels have retreated significantly. Recently, I’ve had abusive drivers demanding that I cancel bookings they had previously accepted because it was inconvenient for them to pick me up. Time is ripe for a better service provider.

> Short and sweet

Before making a speech, the speaker should address the audience simply as “Ladies and Gentlemen” rather than what is being done now which is protracted.

National bowling head coach Holloway Cheah should be awarded a Datukship for his long and excellent service to the nation. He truly deserves it.

> Just parking lanes

Bicycle lanes around Jalan P. Ramlee and elsewhere in Kuala Lumpur are now free parking spaces for buses, taxis and other vehicles. Another waste of taxpayers’ money. So sad.
