MP spends four hours at HQ over alleged 1MDB report’s tampering

PUTRAJAYA: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak spent about four hours at the MACC headquarters over allegations of tampering with 1MDB’s final audit report.

Najib arrived at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters at 10.30am and left at around 2.30pm yesterday.

He was believed to have been called to give a statement on the allegations.

On Nov 25, Auditor-General Tan Sri Dr Madinah Mohamad claimed that the then prime minister’s office had instructed for several paragraphs of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad report to be removed.

Among the alleged amendments include taking out mentions of fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low at the 1MDB board of directors’ meeting.

Others named by Madinah over the alleged tampering included former auditor-general Tan Sri Ambrin Buang, former chief secretary to the government Tan Sri Ali Hamsa, and 1MDB former chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy.

The 1MDB final audit report was presented to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in March 2016.

Ambrin was grilled for about eight hours over the tampering at MACC headquarters on Wednesday.

Former MACC chief Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad was also called in to give his statement on the same day.

An MACC source said that apart from personnel from the Finance Ministry, staff from the Auditor General’s office had also been called in by MACC to assist with the probe.
