Drogba torn between Malaysia and Vietnam
team win!
Former Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba has wished both Vietnam and Malaysia good luck ahead of the AFF Suzuki Cup final, which will be played over two legs on Dec 11 (Bukit Jalil) and Dec 15 (Hanoi).
“I wish both teams good luck,” said Drogba, who met Chelsea fans at the Yokohama-Chelsea meet-the-fans session yesterday at Sunway Pyramid in Petaling Jaya.
“I’m actually in a difficult position because I’ll be in Vietnam next. I’m sure I’m going to be asked the same question. So, may the best team win in the final.
“Qualifying for the final is great for Malaysian football. When I see the Chelsea fans here, who are so passionate, imagine them supporting the national team. The atmosphere will be crazy.
“I’m sure it will be a good game.”
Fans were singing Chelsea songs and constantly cheered at the 40-year-old, who just retired from professional football.
When asked what Malaysian players can learn from African footballers, who thrived in European leagues, Drogba said players should learn that adversities only make one tougher.
“Many African players come from tough backgrounds. What make us different? We may lose a game or may not score a goal – but it will not bring us down. These difficult moments have taught us to be stronger in life.
“It’s part of our strength. Tough times will only make us tougher,” he said.
