Top achievers
A TOTAL of 215 award winners from 58 schools have been named top achievers at the Cambridge Assessment International Education’s (Cambridge International) Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards.
This is the largest group of winners to have received awards for the June examination series since they first started in 2004.
This year’s awards ceremony presented a total of 227 awards for achievements in the IGCSE and Cambridge International AS and A Levels. Of the winners, 124 learners were awarded “Top in the World”; 21 obtained “High Achievement”; and 77 ranked “Top in Malaysia”. Additionally, three awards were presented to students who obtained first place in “Best Across Three Cambridge International A Levels”, “Best Across Four Cambridge International AS Levels” and “Best Across Eight IGCSEs”. Students got top marks in subjects such as Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics and First Language English.
Cambridge International Southeast Asia & Pacific regional director Dr Ben Schmidt said: “When students graduate from secondary school into higher education, I believe that there are many lessons to learn.” “They will be faced with a new-found independence and this gives them the opportunity to create their own path in life. I’m certainly proud of the achievements of this year’s winners who will venture on to greater things,” he said.
Dr Schmidt said regardless of what the learners have decided to pursue, he is confident that the curriculum which emphasises independent thinking, has prepared them to brave their own challenges and emerge victorious.
Cambridge International Malaysia and Brunei country director Ng Kim Huat said: “By achieving these truly amazing results, you have not only made Malaysians very proud but you have also brought academic glory to Malaysia internationally.”
Congratulating the students, he said that Malaysia does produce some of the brightest, if not, most brilliant students in the world.
