No kidding, please, it’s simple

LET me explain, simply, about the ownership of money.

We have loans from banks, PTPTN loans from the government, and loans from friends.

When we get a credit facility from a bank, it is a loan and not free money. We have to pay back the loan plus the interest on it. And where does the bank get the money in the first place? It gets the money from depositors; and has to pay interest on the deposits received. It is very simple.

When students get PTPTN (National Higher Education Fund Corp) loans, they have to pay back the loan when they graduate and start working. It is not free money. And where does the government get the money to loan to them? It gets the money from revenue received. That is, from taxpayers. And when the borrowers repay the study loans, the money is used to help other students who come after them and who need loans. The money will become a revolving fund. It is very simple.

So, to me, it is amazing that graduates who are working are being very grudging about making their repayments. They should be grateful that the government lent a helping hand to enable them to get into gainful employment. It is their turn to help others who come after them. It is very simple.

When friends or relatives get loans from you, they must pay you back. They cannot pretend that they do not owe money! It is rather amazing that they have conveniently forgotten about the loans. It becomes very embarrassing to ask for the money back! Without asking, they should automatically pay back. It is very simple.

I have learnt that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad owned a bakery. He wanted to get Malays to manage the business. Now, the money that came in belonged to the owner and not, for heaven’s sake, the manager! Helping himself to money that did not belong to him was, and is, wrong. Obviously, it is wrong to take somebody else’s money! It is theft! It is very simple.

No wrong-doing? What do you say about 1MDB money? No wrong-doing?

No kidding, please. It is very simple. S.H. HUANG Kuala Lumpur
