Over a million workers to benefit from HRDF funds

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Some RM900mil from the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) will be used to train workers next year, said Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran.

“The HRDF will move forward towards training about 1.2 million Malaysian workers in 2019, utilising the RM900mil Human Resources Development ( HRD) levy that the fund will collect from its registered employers,” he said.

He said his ministry would harmonise its efforts with the HRDF to ensure that all Malaysian employees whose companies are registered with HRDF as well as local employees are up-skilled and re-skilled to meet the challenges of automation and digitalisation.

He was speaking to reporters at Parliament lobby yesterday.

Earlier in the Dewan Rakyat, Kulasegaran assured lawmakers that both civil and criminal action would be taken against high-ranking HRDF staff who misappropriated about RM100mil or one third of the RM300mil in the fund.

He said that reports were lodged with the police, the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission and the Companies Commission of Malaysia.

“The investigation is also being carried out by the Governance Oversight Committee and action will be taken. However, since the matter is still under investigation, I cannot reveal much.”
