Party to pen formal letter to pave way for coalition’s disbandment
PETALING JAYA: The MCA will pen a formal letter to Barisan Nasional to dissolve the coalition.
The party’s central committee said the decision was reached after “taking into account the political scenario in the country and the views of the young people and veterans”.
The committee held a meeting on Wednesday in which it “unanimously resolved to affirm the resolutions which were overwhelmingly passed by central delegates, with one dissenting” at the party AGM held on Dec 2.
“The resolutions include Resolution 1.1 whereby ‘the general assembly authorises the central committee to pave the way for the dissolution of Barisan Nasional and forge an effective alliance’,” the central committee said in a statement yesterday.
It said the resolution was the party’s first step towards regaining support for a political comeback by checking and balancing the government.
After the Dec 2 AGM, party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong told reporters that MCA would seek a consensus with its partners.
The Ayer Hitam MP said Barisan must be disbanded with full understanding and agreement of the component parties so that they have the freedom to innovate and rebuild.
