Owner of missing bull Vikram gets Christmas gift
MELAKA: It was a dejected Kulwant Singh Daljit when he spoke of his missing bull, which once impregnated five cows at about the same time.
That was in November, when he went public about his bull named Vikram, which has disappeared for about three months now.
The bull, together with the expecting cows, are believed to have been stolen. Two other female cattle have vanished as well from his farm in Serkam.
However, there was a bit of good news for Kulwant yesterday when he got a gift: funds to restart his livestock business.
That is due to the generosity of Settlement Hotel of Ujong Pasir here.
“I was really touched when the hotel called me to receive the Christmas gift from the Chief Minister,” he said yesterday.
Kulwant, 47, will join 60 children, five Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and a non-governmental organisation to get the presents in the form of financial aid from Melaka Chief Minister Adly Zahari today.
Settlement Hotel owner Billy Leong decided to help out Kulwant in his Christmas and back-to-school programme.
Leong is allocating almost RM50,000 to be given away as Christmas gifts and educational materials to pupils and students from various schools in the state.
Funds are also given to PTAs to subsidise the purchase of educational materials for needy school kids next year.
One of the recipients is college student, S. Goulsya, who could not pay her final-year semester fees after her father’s death last year.
Goulsya will get a cash aid of RM4,000 so that she could sit for her final examination at a private college here.
Melaka Housing, Local Government and Environment committee chairman Tey Kok Kiew praised Leong for making charity part of his annual initiative.
“His deed complements the state government’s aim to prioritise the welfare of the people,” he said after visiting the hotel to support its charity sale of toys.
