> What’s left behind

Whether they’re camping on Penang Hill, picnicking in Port Dickson or Cameron Highlands, it’s the same. They only leave rubbish and destruction behind.

> Teach them young

That was a good write-up in Star2, page three, Dec 14, about Lionel Yew, wife Ramona and children Liesl and Liam. Their work with the Semai orang asli in Kampung Ulu Slim, Perak, is commendable. Ramona pointed out “children should be ‘doing good’ from young. The more it is practised, the more the habit will continue in adulthood.” Thumbs up to the Yew family.

> Party hoppers

Umno is getting rid of opportunists – good purge. But why would other parties want to entertain such suspicious political opportunists? Pakatan Harapan should not encourage political party frog jumping now. The party has already admitted some who have crossed over, and it is time to stop. Accepting too many of them will come as a great disappointment to and betrayal of the electorate. – Mohan

The current government must focus efforts on institutional reform as promised in its manifesto instead of spending time accepting rubbish frogs from other parties. – Lee Hui Seng

If we’re going to allow political party “jumpers”, please have a window opening only in the final year of the term. Not the first year. This would be more acceptable and fairer for the rakyat who voted for them, and it would encourage us to also think about whether we want to keep them as our representatives in the future. – Ritchie

> Race politics aren’t in

> My Malaysia

The picture of Lakhsmita and her headmistress Datin Azian Ahmad Shaharbi when Lakhsmita won a reading award (story in StarEducation, Dec 16) and the commentary by Prof Tajudin Rasdi (Sunday Star Focus on Dec 16) epitomises who we are as a nation and our destiny as well. Let’s not lose hope.

> Keep out

No one should interfere in Umno’s affairs, like deciding whether its current leader stays. Only Umno members should decide, as outsiders have their own hidden agenda! – Zilazu
