Pakatan Youth open to accepting defectors – with conditions

-

PETALING JAYA: Youths in Pakatan Harapan will agree to ex-opposition MPs crossing over to the coalition, but only if certain strict conditions are fulfilled.

Pakatan Youth said it was watching the recent defections closely and urged the coalition’s leadership to accept the defectors with conditions.

The statement was made by all four Youth chiefs of the Pakatan component parties, including PKR and DAP whose leaders are opposed to the crossovers.

“The stringent conditions that have to be imposed include passing the vetting process by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, declaring assets in a transparent manner, not given important positions in the federal or state governments,” it read.

“Most importantly, issue an open apology to the people for having supported the previous administration before and during the 14th general election.

“They must also be made independent MPs first.

“The Pakatan leadership can only accept this group (of defectors) if they are truly satisfied that they have fulfilled such conditions,” they said in a joint statement yesterday.

The filtering process should be transparent and conducted by all Pakatan component parties before a decision is made, they said.

The four chiefs who issued the statement are Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia), Akmal Nasir (PKR), Howard Lee (DAP) and Mohd Sany Hamzan (Parti Amanah Negara).

“Pakatan Harapan Youth wishes to remind the Malaysian government to never forget the mandate given by the people via their votes at the 14th general election.

“The youth wants a government with integrity and dignity, not a government that prioritises power and political interests.

“Pakatan Harapan is not a licence for someone seeking riches and power. It must reject whatever forms of kleptocracy, bribery and abuse of power associated with Umno or Barisan Nasional,” they said.
