Leaders call on M’sians to stand united and not sow hatred
PETALING JAYA: No one should try to hijack the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim and sow hatred in the country, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The PKR president and Port Dickson MP said Malaysians must stand united.
“Muhammad Adib was a hero who paid the ultimate price while serving in the line of duty,” Anwar tweeted yesterday.
Meanwhile, opposition leader Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi called for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to be set up to thoroughly investigate Muhammad Adib’s death.
Ahmad Zahid also urged that the RCI look into the overall fracas that took place at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ25, Subang Jaya, on Nov 27.
“Justice for Adib must be upheld,” he tweeted yesterday.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said Muhammad Adib’s death should spur all Malaysians to unite and not live in a divided society.
He said Mohammad Adib was a victim of a crime that wanted to damage and create racial tension where they acted based upon emotion and not rational thinking.
“We must make the incident that had befallen Mohammad Adib as a motivation for us to do anything that we possibly can to stop all the prejudice against any religion, race or faith.
“If not, then Mohammad Adib’s passing will be a waste in trying to create a harmonious society,” he said in a statement.
Mohamed Khaled called on all Malaysians to live in peace and there should not be a “second or third Adib” after this.
He also said Mohammad Adib’s was a story about bravery, dedication and sacrifices of a young fireman wanting to serve his beloved nation.
MCA Youth chief Nicole Wong Siaw Ting urged those fanning racial sentiments to keep a calm head and not let emotions override rationality.
“It is necessary to bring the perpetrators to justice but thorough investigations must be executed beforehand.
“Spreading baseless rumours regarding the case will not help to resolve the situation.
“Stop stoking fears and hatred among the different ethnic groups as it may be blown out of proportion,” said Wong in a statement yesterday.
MIC vice-president Datuk C. Sivarraajh urged Malaysians to remain calm and united against any form of violence.
