All DBKL diesel vehicles to use B10 biodiesel
Petrol-palm oil blend to lower emissions
KUALA LUMPUR: All Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) diesel vehicles will use B10 biodiesel to promote a greener city and to encourage use of palm oil, says Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad.
DBKL’s 813 vehicles will be using the biodiesel, which is a blend of 10% palm methyl ester and 90% petroleum.
“The use of the B10 diesel is in line with DBKL’s wish to achieve the goal of a ‘ low carbon city’ by reducing the emission of black fumes from vehicles’ exhausts and to increase the air quality in Kuala Lumpur city,” Khalid said at the launch at Menara DBKL here.
“With this, we can also create new demand and markets for our palm oil,” he said, adding this would increase the price of palm oil.
He said DBKL and the Malaysian Palm Oil Board had previously collaborated on a study in 2014 to test the B10 biodiesel with 50 DBKL vehicles.
He said the study, which lasted three-and-ahalf years, went well with no signs of technical trouble.
Khalid also announced that DBKL would be taking over operations of the GoKL buses from the Transport Ministry starting next year.
He said the budget for the free GoKL bus service, which aims to ease “first-mile-lastmile” problems, would remain at RM12.2mil a year.
Starting next Feb 1, he said, a possible new bus route could be introduced either between Universiti LRT station-People’s Housing Project (PPR) Sri Pantai or Tun Razak TerminalMindef.
Also present at the event were Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok and Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan.
Meanwhile, Khalid, who is also Parti Amanah Negara communications director, said the party had guidelines on whether to approve the membership of possible Umno defectors.
“It depends on how they perform (as independent MPs).
“Let them be independent first, and if they are finally accepted, they cannot hold any positions for a year,” he said.
