KUALA LUMPUR: With Christmas around the corner, the police are gearing up to maintain order and public safety and ensure everyone has a happy holiday.

While they monitor places of interest and places of worship, Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department person- nel will be deployed to ensure motorists have a smooth journey.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim (pic) said it was business as usual for them.

“Our duty as the police is to ensure public order and internal security.

“So far, we have not received any information on threats targeting Malaysia during this festive season.

“We are not taking any chances and will react accordingly,” he said yesterday.

He said they would focus on pla– ces of interest and places of worship and deploy more personnel to ensure the safety of those who are celebrating.

“Don’t worry, our personnel are monitoring the situation carefully,” he said.

On traffic enforcement, Noor Rashid said they were prepared for heavier than normal traffic flow on state roads and highways as people head back home for the holidays.

“Our focus is not to go out and issue summonses but more towards reducing traffic accidents and making the journey pleasant for motorists,” he said adding that there were more than enough personnel on duty during this period.
