Momota begins SSPL adventure with Ampang club today
PETALING JAYA: Puchong United BC (PUBC) showed no mercy as they romped to a 15-5 win over newcomers Bukit Mertajam All Stars BC (BMASBC) in the SS Purple League (SSPL).
The defending champions proved too strong for the Penang based side as they won all their five matches yesterday.
It was PUBC’s second win in the league and they now topped the league standings 28 wins and 395 points.
On Saturday, last year’s runners-up Kepong BC (KBC) kicked off their campaign with a convincing 15-6 win over Serdang BC.
Today will be the most anticipated day of the league as world number one Kento Momota is set to make his bow for Ampang Jaya Badminton Club (AJBC).
The reigning world champion from Japan will begin his SSPL adventure with AJBC against Kepong Badminton Club (KBC), and on Wednesday, he will lead the team against defending champions Puchong United Badminton Club (PUBC) at the Gem In Mall in Cyberjaya.
Teams will be competing in three stages in a single round-robin format and playoff format for the title.
The total prize money this season is RM1.5mil. The Finals is scheduled at Genting Highlands from Jan 24-27.
