Socso paid RM93.57mil in compensati­on up to October

KUALA LUMPUR: The Social Security Organisati­on (Socso) has paid a total of RM93.57mil in compensati­on to workers involved in accidents while commuting between their home and workplace from January to October.

Socso in a statement said the amount was for temporary disability benefits involving 25,219 cases, with each receiving an average of RM3,710.

During the same period last year, Socso paid RM94.53mil to 26,637 cases with an average of RM3,550 each.

For fatal and non-fatal accidents, the benefits paid totalled RM169.08mil for temporary disability and RM421.86mil for permanent disability while for dependants’ benefit, the amount was RM240.07mil.

“Through the Prihatin Squad, Socso will continue to be more proactive in assisting contributo­rs involved in accidents.” said the statement yesterday.

“This also includes accelerati­ng the payment of benefits in order to reduce their burden or that of their next of kin.”

Socso also added that the public administra­tion and defence sectors, as well as compulsory security activities, continue to be the largest group to receive benefits for temporary disability amounting to RM60.51mil.

Among other sectors which received the highest benefits were manufactur­ing (RM42.04mil), constructi­on (RM22.41mil) and trading (RM19.83mil).

In 2017, the public administra­tion and defence sectors, as well as compulsory security activities, received benefits amounting to RM64.41mil, manufactur­ing ( RM44.08mil), constructi­on ( RM23.94mil) and trading (RM23.53mil). — Bernama
