FAM reject Kedah’s appeal against Akhyar’s contract buyout
PETALING JAYA: The decision stands – Muhammad Akhyar Abdul Rashid is a free agent.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Appeals Committee have rejected Kedah’s appeal against the national body’s status committee decision to allow the 19-year-old winger to buy out his contract from Kedah.
Earlier this month, the FAM Status Committee said in a statement that Akhyar was allowed to redeem his contract with Kedah by paying RM210,000 and teams signing him will also have to pay Kedah a compensation worth RM75,000.
FAM said the compensation amount was decided according to the FAM’s Player Transfer and Status rules.
The RM210,000 compensation is based on Akhyar’s salary amount multiplied by the balance of his contract with Kedah, which follows Article 15A.
By taking into account the good values of football, Kedah will get RM75,000 as training cost compensation.
Overall, Kedah will receive compensation worth RM285,000.
Last week, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) expressed their interest in signing the young player but his former team Kedah have claimed that he was not a free agent and interested parties should talk to them instead of the player.
JDT technical director Alistair Edwards expressed his surprise by saying that the northern state was trying to manipulate fans by spreading inaccurate information following the Southern Tigers announcement that they are in negotiations with the Malaysian international.
Last month, reports stated that Akhyar was looking to terminate his contract with Kedah and has brought the case to FAM after failing to agree on terms with the northern side.
