KUALA LUMPUR: The presence of Leon Chiro, a well-known Italian cosplayer, has mesmerised Malaysian fans.

“We have been following Leon Chiro for many years and we can’t believe he is here in Malaysia for the first time,” said Nurul Asyikin Nik Hassan.

Nurul said she admired Chiro’s style in every character he portrayed and meeting him seemed almost surreal.

“His make-up and styling skills are flawless,” said Nurul, who was at the opening day of the Star Supa Comic with her friend Noor Azlina Musa.

Noor Azlina, who frequently participates in cosplay events as Ina Feito playing popular heroine characters, said they had always wanted to see how Chiro did it.

Another fan, Huda Liyana Zulkifli, said she had been following him on Instagram for the past four years.

She was thrilled to know that he would be in Malaysia for the Star Supa Comic.

“He looks exactly like the character he plays. It is rare to find a cosplayer who can look so alike the actual character itself,” said Huda Liyana, 21.

Chiro is one of the international cosplay stars featured at the event besides Clarissa Punipun from Indonesia, Singaporean Kenneth “Lilaeroplane” Ting and Onnies from Thailand.

Also at the event were Ian Cheong, 17, and his sister Cheong You Yit, 12, who came dressed as characters Shido Itsuka and Yoshino respectively from Date A Live.

Cheong said they attended the event to meet other cosplayers as well as to participate in the various activities.

The event at Mid Valley Exhibition Centre was launched by the private secretary to the Youth and Sports

Minister, Mohamed Amshar Aziz, together with Star Media Group chief operating officer Roy Tan and i.Star Events Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Adriana Law.

The Star Supa Comic event ends today. It is open from 10am until 9pm.

Among the activities scheduled to be held today are performances by Za Girudo, Clarissa Punipun, Dreamin’, Mystical Mirage and Prime Monument.

There will also be a cosplay prop workshop by Leon Neol and a gathering of Boku No Hero fans.

Star Supa Comic is organised by i. Star Events Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Star Media Group, with Animangaki as event partner and DimSum, 988 and Suria FM as the official media partners.
