Contest winner ready to face tougher competitors
GEORGE TOWN: Natasha Goh Jia Xi has been taking part in art contests since she was seven but colouring a picture about harmony is a first for her.
However, the 12-year-old is happy to win the colouring contest themed ‘Harmony for a Better World’ for Category C (10-12 years old) at Sunshine Square here.
“After winning the contest, next year will be a challenge as I’ll be competing with secondary school students.
“I’ll just give my best as colouring and drawing are my hobby,” said the SJK(C) Kheng Tean pupil who received her prize from the Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas and State Consultative Goodwill Council president Tan Sri Mohd Yussof Latiff on Saturday.
The other winners were Ooi Le Shuen, six, and Mak Qin Xuan, eight, who won Category A (four to six years old) and Category B (seven to nine years old).
The winner for each category walked away with RM150 Sunshine cash voucher, hamper worth RM50 and a trophy.
The first and second runners-up of each category took home RM100 and RM80 Sunshine cash voucher as well as a hamper worth RM50 and a trophy each.
There were also 10 consolation prize winners for each category, who took home RM30 Sunshine cash voucher, a hamper worth RM30 and a trophy.
Organising chairman Datuk Abdul Rafique Abdul Karim said about 100 children took part in the colouring contest.
“The objective is to create awareness about the importance of unity,” he said.
Also present was Suiwah Corporation Bhd managing director Datuk Hwang Thean Long.
