MCA questions DAP’s stance over Bersatu’s new agenda

-

GEORGE TOWN: MCA has questioned DAP’s stance over the proposed new agenda by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia to further empower the bumiputra socially and economically.

Its president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the concept brought up by Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was based on “equitable shared prosperity”, and not creating equal opportunities.

“What’s your stance, DAP? Support or object?

“Facing such an absurd and extreme policy, DAP chairman Tan Kok Wai said it was merely a proposal and still needed to be discussed among Pakatan Harapan coalition partners.

“The party remains silent and dares not even object despite having 42 seats in Parliament!” he said.

Muhyiddin was earlier quoted as saying that the agenda would further convince bumiputra that their well-being would be cared for by the Pakatan government.

He said 74% of those earning a monthly household income of RM4,360 were bumiputra, adding that they would propose for it to be made a core policy of Pakatan and accepted by the Cabinet as a national agenda.

Meanwhile, Dr Wee also asked whether DAP was consulted when Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad decided to go ahead with the “crooked bridge” between Malaysia and Singapore, or scrap the local council elections. “I believe Bersatu did consult DAP.

“Dr Mahathir did say that DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang also agreed with the idea of accepting former Umno leaders into Bersatu.

“It seems the internal discussion among Pakatan is just a form of discussion, which DAP will support eventually,” Dr Wee added.
