Ahmad Faizal plays up the political reality in Perak

PUTRAJAYA: Even if speculation of his ouster is true, Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu warns that the position of any successor would be shaky because of Pakatan Harapan’s slim majority.

“Whoever becomes Pakatan’s Perak mentri besar is not safe because of the number of seats we have now.

“I have a majority of three seats. Even if Umno combines with PAS at the moment, they can’t form the government. They would need two to jump ship from us.

“But then they too won’t be stable. Nobody is secure,” he said at Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s annual general meeting at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

A purported Pakatan mutiny to topple Ahmad Faizal, through a vote of no confidence, during the state assembly meeting early this month did not materialise.

The Perak Bersatu chairman yesterday brushed off reports about the move to topple him as being unfounded.

The Chenderiang assemblyman, who won by merely 39 votes, has been described as the “Lone Ranger MB”. Other Pakatan parties with larger majorities had also objected to his appointment as mentri besar.

When asked about his relationship with fellow Pakatan assemblymen, he acknowledged they do quarrel once in a while.

“Sometimes there are heated arguments which are very constructive.

“There are times when relationships get strained for an hour or two. I am laidback but I will stand on my principles. But we do not have strained relationships (for long).

“This hoo-ha (toppling of MB) will happen every time before we call for our state assembly meeting, so same thing from the beginning – the first time and the second time. I don’t think it is real because it came from the opposition and I spoke to my exco members – there were no problems,” he said.
