Police officer over the moon after mass wedding
KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector Nur Raifana Shamsuddin’s wedding will be an event that she will not forget.
She and her husband Mohd Firdaus Jamil joined 19 other couples in a mass wedding ceremony sponsored by Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad.
She said she had never expected to be chosen to take part in the ceremony.
“We are very grateful as the event was very well organised and we have our friends and family members here as well.
“It is certainly a wonderful experience and one we will always cherish,” she said when met at the event, which was held at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) on Saturday.
The mass wedding ceremony began with the “akad nikah” (solemnisation) and ended with a reception.
The bank also sponsored a onenight stay at Boulevard Hotel in Mid Valley.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun wished the couples a blissful married life and praised Bank Muamalat for its noble effort.
“The average cost of a wedding
ceremony is at least RM30,000,” he said in his speech.
“The sponsorship by Bank Mualamat for this mass wedding ceremony will certainly help ease the financial burden of the couples involved.”
The mass wedding for police personnel was the brainchild of Bank Mualamat, which wanted to organise it as part of its corporate social
responsibility, he added.
“We hope the good example set by Bank Mualamat can be emulated by other organisations,” he said.
Bank Muamalat chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Redza Shah Abdul Wahid said the bank was happy to play its part in sponsoring the mass wedding.
“It is our way to honour the sacrifices of police personnel while ful-
filling our corporate social responsibility,” he said.
Among those who attended the ceremony were Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim, deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim and Bukit Aman Management department acting director Deputy Comm Datuk Abd Jalil Hassan.
