The Star Malaysia

Please don’t make us regret voting you in A VERY CONCERNED CITIZEN Shah Alam

-

I WRITE this with a sense of disappointment at the current state of politics in Malaysia.

I worked hard to get my postal vote home and I sincerely wanted a change. I stayed up all night nervously waiting for the change that I had wanted all these years. I wanted an intelligent Malaysia where we treat all our citizens equally and the Human category is all that we would consider and not race, religion, gender or background.

The change happened – but seven months on, I see bickering, disagreements, resignations, calling for resignations, and racially motivated issues, all of which is giving me a bad headache.

I’m starting to wonder if the politicians have forgotten what they were voted in for, that they were given a mandate to look after all Malaysians and bring about positive changes. It appears to me that has little importance now.

I’d like to say to politicians, please stop wasting time. They have about five years to clean up the huge mess left behind by the previous government and produce results. Yes, I mean produce results! Some of them are new ministers and deputy ministers and that means learning on the job. Clean up + learn as you go + produce results = Massive Challenge! So stop wasting time.

The next time I vote, I’ll be basing my decision on achievements and whether they can do the job or not.

Our politicians should (a) take a short break to reflect upon themselves, (b) reflect upon what they have done to date, (c) act on what must be done, (d) set targets to produce results and work through that.

To all our politicians: Please don’t make me think I voted for a meaningless change, and don’t forget, Malaysians are watching you!

Despite the current state, I’ll continue to have faith that things will get better (I’m trying hard to end on a positive note here).

Happy New Year to all!
