SMG to announce its new CEO
Three-man committee to oversee operations until new chief takes office
KUALA LUMPUR: Star Media Group Bhd (SMG) has identified a new CEO but a three-man special committee will oversee operations of the group until the new chief executive assumes office.
The special committee comprises three non-executive directors who are Datuk Fu Ah Kiow, Datuk Dr Mohd Aminuddin Mohd Rouse and Chan Seng Fatt.
“The board wishes to emphasise that whilst the above mentioned directors undertake their role as oversight on the operations, they will as non-executive directors endeavour to act objectively at all times in the best interests of the company and shareholders,” said SMG in a statement to Bursa Malaysia yesterday.
The company on Nov 30 announced that Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, who served the com- pany for 34 years, submitted his letter of retirement as group managing director and chief executive officer effective Jan 1 this year.
Wong also would relinquish his directorship in all subsidiaries of the company from the same date.
He will continue with the company as group advisor on editorial and corporate relation matters.
SMG also stated that its board of directors had identified the new CEO to replace Wong and will make the announcement in due course.
In a separate announcement, the company told Bursa Malaysia that Loh Chee Can has been appointed as an independent director.
Loh began his career in Singapore as a junior engineer between 1992 and 2002.
He was subsequently promoted to chief engineer and served on board ocean-going vessels trading worldwide with ship management companies in Singapore and Malaysia.
In 2003 to 2018, SMG said Loh started ashore as engineer superintendent and progressed to senior engineer superintendent, senior manager and engineering project head in a leading shipping conglomerate in Malaysia.
