Prosecution in ex-spy case given deadline

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The prosecution has until Feb 21 to hand over a complete set of documents to former spy chief Datuk Hasanah Abdul Hamid for her to prepare her defence in a criminal breach of trust case.

Judge Rozina Ayob fixed the date after DPP Muhammad Iskandar Ahmad informed the court that the prosecution had yet to pass all the documents to Hasanah’s lawyer Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz.

“So far the prosecution has handed over three documents but there are a few more that we have not passed,” he said.

Among the documents are copies of CCTV recordings and a slide presentation.

DPP Muhammad Iskandar also informed the court that the prosecution has applied for the case to be transferred to the High Court.

Meanwhile, Mohd Khairul asked for the court not to freeze his client’s bank accounts to allow her to continue with her daily life.

Rozina, however, said the court would not decide on the matter and suggested that the prosecution and defence discuss the issue.

On Oct 25 last year, the former Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation directorgeneral claimed trial to a charge of CBT involving US$12.1mil (RM50.3mil) of government funds.

She allegedly committed the offence at the Prime Minister’s Department in Putrajaya between April 30 and May 9 last year.
