Nepali fined RM4,000 for pulling co-worker’s bra strap

-

PETALING JAYA: He was supposed to be making cakes in a factory but this Nepalese worker turned his attention instead on a female co-worker.

He called her repeatedly and when she ignored him, he brazenly pulled her bra strap.

But too bad for Pratap Thokar, 25, as he could neither have the cake nor eat it in the end.

The woman made a police report against him and yesterday he was slapped with a RM4,000 fine in default five months’ jail by a magistrate’s court here.

Magistrate Mohamad Ikhwan Mohd Nasir meted out the sentence against Pratap after he pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of using a gesture intended to insult the modesty of a 23-year-old local woman, by pulling her bra from behind.

The offence was committed at a cake factory in Taman Mayang, Kelana Jaya, here at 10am on Dec 16.

Under Section 509 of the Penal Code, the offence carries a maximum jail term of five years, or a fine, or both.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident Pratap and the victim were both working at the cake section of the plant and Pratap resorted to pulling the woman’s bra strap after she refused to acknowledge his calls.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Alia Sumayyah Amran urged the court to mete out a deterrent sentence against the accused.

“I urge the court to take into consideration the fact that the accused has disrupted the peace of the workers at the plant,” she said.

However, the accused, who was not represented, pleaded for a light sentence on the grounds he only pulled his colleague’s bra strap to gain her attention after she ignored his calls.

It is not known whether Pratap paid the fine. — Bernama
