Ex-Queen of Rock to perform traditional songs

-

ONCE the Queen of Rock, Ella (pic) will stage a concert at Istana Budaya in March that will feature lagu asli (traditional songs).

“I want the younger generation to remember our musical roots,” Ella, whose full name is Nor Zila Aminuddin, said.

Bahasa Malaysia dailies which reported about the concert pointed out that it would be held in the same month as Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza’s grand show.

But Ella, 52, was unfazed. Although there would only be five songs in the lagu asli segment, she hoped that it would be a catalyst for the public to appreciate such tunes.

Ella, who got her start in show business in 1985 through Ella and The Boys, said wearing the hijab wasn’t an obstacle to performing on stage “as long as I know my limit”.

She also paid tribute to her husband Azhar Ghazali, 37, for being a source of encouragement.

> It was an agonising start to the school term for a Year Four boy when his left leg got stuck in the gap of a metal bench.

He was trapped for about 20 minutes until firemen came to his rescue, Harian Metro reported.

The 10-year-old was waiting for his parents to fetch him from his school in Sepang, Selangor, on Wednesday afternoon when the incident occurred.

“We used a rescue tool to free his leg,” KLIA Fire and Rescue Department head Khairuddin Jamaludin said, adding that the boy was unhurt.

> Enraged that his wife was late in preparing him a beverage, a drug addict hit his wife in the head with an iron, Kosmo! reported.

The 26-year-old woman suffered a 3cm-long gash on her head after being beaten up by her 43-year-old husband at their house in Butterworth on Monday.

The suspect, who is a blacksmith, had other drug-related cases and a urine test showed that he was on morphine, said North Seberang Perai district police chief Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor.

“The wife said he beat her as she was slow to make his drink since she was busy with housework.

“She also said he hit her several times previously,” said Noorzainy.

The couple, who have been married for five years, have two children aged three and five.
