Wan Zack and Nurridzuan join Red Giants to prove they are not has-beens

Two forgotten men – Wan Zack Haikal Wan Nor (left pic) and Nurridzuan Abu Hassan (right) – are out to resurrect their careers at Selangor.

Both midfielders lit up the football scene with their exciting displays on the flanks with the national Under-23 side in 2012 but a combination of injuries and loss of form stalled their progress over the last few years.

Wan Zack had stints with Japanese second division side Ryukyu FC, Kelantan and Felda United, while Nurridzuan featured for Perak, Pahang and PKNS before joining the Red Giants for the 2019 season.

The 27-year-old Wan Zack showed glimpses of his old form after helping Felda win the Premier League and promotion to the Super League last season and now aims to continue his climb back to prominence with Selangor.

“I’m with a bigger team now and of course, the challenge will be different. The expectation is higher but I believe I’m ready to push myself all the way,” said Wan Zack, also a winger.

“I’ve big hopes with Selangor ... my dream is to win silverwares for my new club. There are quality players in the team and the competition to get into the starting line-up is definitely tougher.

“If I get the chance, I want to play for the national team but for that I need to be a regular for my club in the league first.”

The 26-year-old Nurridzuan also hopes to play for the national team but his priority is to make an impact with Selangor first.

“I’m proud to don Selangor colours for the 2019 season, they are one of the giants of Malaysian football. I’ve struggled to get matches with my former team last season due to injuries and I hope that nightmare stays in the past,” said Nurridzuan.

Wan Zack and Nurridzuan may get a chance to play in the Merdeka Tournament under the national banner in March if they can rediscover their old form withSelangor.
