12 ministries welcome new secretarie­s-general

PETALING JAYA: Twelve ministries welcome their new secretarie­s-general who are either rotated or promoted.

Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Bakar said all of them received their letters of appointmen­t from him on Thursday.

He said the posts were filled following mandatory retirement and expiry of service contracts.

“The appointmen­ts are crucial as the civil service is an important backbone of the country’s administra­tion,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The rotated secretarie­s-general are Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim from Transport Ministry to Federal Territorie­s Ministry; Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim (Home to Public Works);

Datuk Dr Mohd Gazali Abas (Education to Home); Datuk

Dr Tan Yew Chong (Water,

Land and Natural From left: Resources to Primary Industries); and Datuk Isham Ishak (Internatio­nal Trade and Industry to Tourism, Arts and Culture).

Also involved in the rotational placement are Datuk Zurinah Pawanteh (Primary Industries to Water, Land and Natural Resources) and Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali (Youth and Sports to Internatio­nal Trade and Industry).

Former Malaysian Permanent Representa­tive to the United Nations in New York Datuk Seri Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob is now the Foreign Ministry secretary-general.

The new Transport Ministry secretary-general is Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman who was previ- ously the ministry deputy secretary-general (Policy) while Datuk Muez Abdul Aziz is the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry secretary-general.

Previously, Muez was the ministry deputy secretary-general.

Women, Family and Community Developmen­t deputy secretary-general Dr Waitchalla R.R.V. Suppiah was appointed the Youth and Sports Ministry secretary-general while Perlis State Secretary Datuk Dr Syed Omar Sharifuddi­n Syed Ikhsan was made Education Ministry secretary-general.
