Police raid illegal gambling machine warehouse

By JUSTIN ZACK SERDANG: A warehouse here has been hiding illegal gambling machines for the past two months.

Nestled in the middle of a small industrial park along Taman Bukit Serdang, the warehouse looked like any other building in the area. But inside were hundreds of gambling simulator machines.

Parts, motherboards and loose wirings littered the one-and-a-halfstorey building.

Some machines were still kept in boxes and containers while others had been stripped down to its bare essentials.

The machines are believed to have been transported to the warehouse late at night to avoid the prying eyes of neighbours or passers-by.

The illegal operation came to an end yesterday after the place was raided by the police who kept the place under surveillance for two days after receiving a tip-off.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Ismadi Borhan said the police seized 1,127 machines from the warehouse.

“This is the first of such a find in the area for 2019. No arrests have been made, but the suspects have been identified,” he said at the scene yesterday.

Initial investigations revealed that the machines, valued at RM15,000 each, were imported into the country.

“The total value of the machines is about RM2.7mil,” he said, adding the import of such machines was an offence under the Customs Act 1967.

“The seized items will be handed over to the Customs Department for further action,” he said.
