Sabah, S’wak drink drivers and drug abusers held

KUCHING: Two drivers have been detained in a drink-driving operation codenamed Ops Mabuk here.

During the four-hour traffic police operation, 118 vehicles were inspected.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said yesterday that the duo were detained after being caught driving under the influence of alcohol during the operation that ended at 3.30am yesterday.

The men were later released on police bail and would be charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Supt Aidil said 38 summonses were issued for various offences during the operation.

The offences included driving with expired road tax and without valid driving licence, modificati­on of vehicle and using licence plate numbers not according to specificat­ions.

Meanwhile, in Kota Kinabalu, police detained 42 people for suspected drug abuse during a weeklong operation.

District police chief Asst Comm Habibi Majinji said during the operation that ended on Tuesday, 12 were arrested for drug possession while the others tested positive for drugs.

Those arrested included 13 foreigners, he said, adding that all those arrested were aged between 16 and 43. Police also seized 15.95g of syabu. — Bernama
