IPOH: Pharmacist Harpreet Kaur Darshan Singh thought she had lost her husband’s wallet at a sundry shop.

To her relief later, the wallet, which contained about RM2,000, was kept safely on an altar at the shop in Buntong where she went to buy vinegar.

“My husband and I were on our way to his workplace. We stopped by the shop to get a bottle of vinegar.

“I realised I didn’t have any small change with me when I was about to pay so I asked from my husband.

“He gave me his wallet. And as soon as I made the payment, I just dashed off,” she said when recalling the Friday evening incident.

Later that night, Harpreet realised that the wallet was missing.

“I thought my husband had misplaced it. But he reminded me that I was the last person to hold it.

“I quickly called up a friend who works near the shop and he told me it was there after checking with the shopkeeper P. Praemavathy.

“I am really grateful that she had kept the wallet safe. I want everyone to know of her good deed,” she said when met yesterday at the shop to thank Praemavathy.

Praemavathy, 57, who has been operating the business for 34 years, said another customer saw the wallet left on top of a candy jar at the counter.

“I took it, tied it with a rubber band and placed it on the altar behind the counter,” she said.

Praemavathy said this was not the first time that customers had left their belongings at her shop.

“There have been many incidences. Some left their mobile phones, car keys, purses and other items.

“I will always put them aside and wait for the customers to claim them,” she said.

“My late father taught me to always be honest and God will repay us.”
