Gift of knowledge

-

EDUCATION is the most important medium of acquiring essential knowledge and skills. It is more than just learning from books. It is an effort of the older generation to transfer their life wisdom to their offspring.

Finland has the best education system in the world. As Finland is willing to send experts to Malaysia to help empower the country’s education system, Malaysia should learn enthusiastically and hope that the cooperation will help our country to learn from the Finnish experiences and good practices in improving the standard of the education system in the country.

It was reported last October that Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said that Finland is prepared to send its experts to Malaysia to help empower the country’s education system.

He said this was conveyed to him by Finnish National Agency for Education general director Olli-Pekka Heinonen, during a meeting.

Dr Maszlee said he hoped the cooperation will help the country to learn from the Finnish experiences and good practices in improving the standard of the education system in Malaysia.

Only primary school education is compulsory in Malaysia, where government schools, private schools and home educators co-exist side by side.

Primary school students have to bring many books that will make their backs sore by the time they get home. In this technology era, our education system must allow the primary and secondary students to only bring their electronic devices to class.

Education is definitely important in one’s life. But we must also promote high quality education and become one of the three best countries in international standard assessments such as in the Programme for International Student Assessments and the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study.

A gift of knowledge can bring us to the top of our dreams. Education makes people capable of doing new interesting things that can go a long way to improving human living conditions and standards. Bear in mind that if you believe and work hard, you can achieve anything. KHAIRUL HANIM MOHD NAYAN Perak.
