StarProperty.my Awards to have new category for city hotels and resorts
PETALING JAYA: The fourth edition of the StarProperty.my Awards 2019 will include a new category, The Creative Touch Awards for city hotels and resorts.
The category is a collaboration between StarProperty.my and the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID).
MIID vice-president Leong Ta Wah hopes the new category will help highlight the interplay between science and art in interior design.
“Interior design, in general, is (made) for human beings,” said Leong in an interview yesterday.
“As such, human factors such as ergonomics, optimal lighting level, the height of fittings, indoor air quality, colour psychology and also material content are all related to science – and these are needed to enhance the interior design of the hotels and resorts.
“The most critical elements when it comes to the interior design of the hotels and resorts are practicality, comfort level and maximised operation.
“It is important to get the right formula between the hardware, which is space design, and software, which means the personal touch on the management of the hotel,” he added.
The new category will help promote Malaysian interior design globally, said StarProperty.my assistant general manager Ernest Bernard Towle.
He said StarProperty.my was also happy to work with MIID on the awards, as such a professional body could help provide the awards with a credible judging panel.
“This experience will be a stepping stone as we hope to go on a bigger scale and cover even more players in this segment next year,” said Towle.
The new category will also have separate awards for city hotels and resorts.
The hotels and resorts that will be eligible to participate in the awards are those with a rating of four stars and above and have been in operation since 2015.
The nominations for The Creative Touch Awards in StarProperty.my Awards 2019 is now open until Jan 20.
