PETALING JAYA: Having played in Melaka for three years, leaving the Southern state was certainly tough on R. Surendran (pic).

The winger who recently joined PKNS said he had good memories in Melaka but it was time for a change in his career.

“I was with Pahang for eight years and when I left them, I felt a little upset. I experienced the same feeling when I left Melaka. It was bittersweet because I had lots of good memories there.

“However, football is such. You have to move on, and now I’m ready to take up my next challenge.”

The 31-year-old player is one of the many signings made by the Klang Valley-based club for the new season.

Signed to bolster the team’s flank options, R. Surendran looks set to fight for a spot in the first XI with players like Tommy

Mawat Bada, Mohd Faizat Mohamad Ghazal i and Muhammad Jafri Muhammad Firdaus Chew.

“I know there will be a fight but I will put my experience to good use.

PKNS have many talented youngsters and I’m looking forward to working with them.

“This club are working towards the future. At the moment, I’m still new in the team, so I need at least three friendly matches to get used to the team.”

Surendran also said that he is working on getting used to Datuk K. Rajagopal’s tactics and style of play to ensure he succeeds with the squad.

“Training sessions have been okay. Coach Raja’s style is different compared to the other coaches I’ve worked with but I will get used to it.”

Surendran made 17 appearances for Melaka last season but only started 10 of those in all competitions.

For the 2019 season, PKNS have so far signed Nicholas Ryan Swirad, Tommy Mawat Bada, Shafiq Shaharudin, Muhammad Ariff Farhan Md Isa, Mohamad Fandi Othman, Shahrom Abdul Kalam, Kpah Sherman and Mohd Farhan Abu Bakar.
