Authorities unable to identify skinny dippers

-

KOTA KINABALU: CCTV footage of the couple who went skinny dipping in a fountain at the famous Gaya Street here was not clear enough to identify them, said City Hall.

According to its enforcement division director Abdul Mukti Muchlish, it was difficult to find out who they were from the images.

He said the photos circulated widely on social media were unclear and “did not show faces”.

“No one has stepped forward to shed light on the incident,” Mukti said yesterday.

In the photo, the couple – believed to be tourists – are seen hugging each other while topless at a roundabout fountain pool.

Mukti said City Hall would lodge a police report on the matter, adding that more CCTVs would be installed around the state capital.

“This fountain incident is not the first such occurrence.

“Last year, a man was seen jumping into the fountain in his swimming trunks while in 2017, several children were caught on camera swimming in it,” he said, adding that no one was caught due to lack of information.

He said the CCTVs in the area were not functioning well and were in the process of being replaced.

Mukti also advised the public to immediately contact City Hall (088-521 800/088-272 582) if they witnessed such cases.
