Malaysians tweet their joy and congratulate Tengku Abdullah
PETALING JAYA: Moments after the announcement that the Regent of Pahang will be proclaimed Sultan on Tuesday, Malaysians flocked to social media to tweet their joy and congratulations.
Twitter was “jammed” with Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah mentioned in 2,715 tweets, and Pahang in 4,995 tweets.
There was also a flood of comments and posts on Facebook.
“Thank you for all that you have done, Sultan Ahmad Shah, and welcome Tengku Abdullah as the next Sultan of Pahang,” Ganesh Nadaraja posted on Facebook.
“Eagerly expecting Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah to be appointed the new YDP Agong and friendly people-oriented Tunku Azizah as Raja Permaisuri. Daulat Tuanku,” wrote Facebook user Dazz Lee.
@leehuiseng tweeted, “Good for sports future in this nation. This likely-to-be YDP Agong used to be MHC and FAM president. He will bring the standard of sports to greater heights.”
He was referring to the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) and the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), which Tengku Abdullah used to head.
MHC appeals committee chair- person Datuk Thavalingam Thavarajah said Tengku Abdullah was highly respected in the international arena through his active participation in hockey and football.
“His charming and down-to-earth personality, dynamism and passion for sports and humanity earned him tremendous respect from both officials and players,’’ he added.
Others also expressed their admiration for Tengku Abdullah’s consort Tunku Azizah Maimunah Iskandariah Sultan Iskandar.
“I’m starting to imagine Che Minah Sayang as our Queen Consort of Malaysia,” tweeted @izzkamilhalda.
Che Minah Sayang is the nickname of Tunku Azizah, and in March 2017, she even officiated a park in Kuala Sentul, Maran, Pahang which was renamed as “Taman Rekreasi Che Minah Sayang”.
