Pahang MB working to end land woes
Wan Rosdy committed to helping farmers resolve issues, says Wee
CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail is working to resolve the land issues faced by farmers here, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
He said Wan Rosdy was aware of the issues and had in fact resolved some of them.
Speaking to reporters after a walkabout at Ringlet yesterday, Dr Wee said although Wan Rosdy was new in helming the state, he had shown his commitment and willingness to resolve the issues.
“The people here, especially the farmers, want nothing more than seeing their land issues resolved.
“We hope his commitment can continue and be supported by the folk here,” he said.
However, Dr Wee added that it might not be appropriate for Wan Rosdy, who is the Jelai assemblyman, to make any promises during the campaign period.
“It would raise suspicion and he would be accused of creating an unfair advantage,” he said.
Dr Wee said the locals had also voiced their concern over the need to have a balanced and sustainable development plan for Cameron Highlands.
“We need to find a formula that can benefit the locals.
“We hope the people here will continue to prosper and have their problems resolved, and that the highlands will continue to be a popular tourist destination,” he said.
On Barisan Nasional’s candidate Ramli Mohd Nor, Dr Wee said the former senior policeman would be a good representative for the people.
“He can speak a bit of Chinese and when he is with the Malay folk at Ringlet, he speaks their language.
“Ramli is also not a controversial figure and having being trained by the security forces to be loyal, I believe he will be loyal to the people,” he added.
Dr Wee urged the people to support Ramli although the outcome would not change anything.
“It will not cause a change in the federal government or the state government. It will only be an indicator of the people’s confidence towards either government,” he said.
