> Issue with utility bills

While we are thankful for the convenience of paying our utility bills at petrol stations and post offices, we are not happy with the use of thermal papers to print the receipts. The ink doesn’t last, so how can we provide proof of payment when the receipt is faded? Can’t normal paper be used? – Consumer

Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang’s billing system is giving us a headache. Even a bill for 88 sen must be paid on time, otherwise a penalty is imposed and, worse, the water supply will be cut. Why create such hassles for consumers? Surely a leeway of a month or two is acceptable for such small amounts? – Janq

> Fireworks havoc

I believe the authorities are too lenient with the enforcement of the fireworks’ ban. Every year during festive occasions, fireworks are let off without any restraint especially at midnight, disturbing the people with the loud noise and smoke pollution. – Mohan

> Bogus qualifications

Resume fraud is well embedded in society and the authorities have done nothing about it. In 1982, an American professor visiting Kuala Lumpur said that there were some high-profile government servants here with bogus doctorate degrees. One of them was a mayor. – Prof (B)

> Restrict police outriders

Besides the Rulers and Prime Minister, others should not be allowed to use police outriders. In most countries, the rulers even drive themselves when on private business. If the powers that be in Malaysia use the roads like ordinary citizens, they might be motivated to resolve the problem of traffic jams.

> RM20 rebate a big help

Why must Tenaga Nasional and the government scrap the RM20 rebate? Retirees like me without any sort of income were happy with the rebate. How can we prove to the various departments that we can’t afford to pay our bills? The government is simply making things difficult for the elderly. TNB, please consider bringing back the earlier system. – Aponi

> Focus on people

As a Malaysian, I would like to suggest that Pakatan Harapan leaders do not harp on the 1MDB and other scandals of the previous government when they campaign for the Semenyih by-election. Tell the rakyat what your plans are to improve their lives instead.
