Amanah: Hard for PAS to save itself from MACC probe

PETALING JAYA: It will be difficult for PAS to save itself from being investigated by the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission (MACC) by supporting Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, says Parti Amanah Negara youth vice-chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin.

“It will be difficult for it to happen if PAS hopes that it will be saved, and that there will be no investigation over matters related to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad and the audio recording courting national security issues,” he said in a media statement issued here yesterday.

He said the government is transparent and will not allow any outside interference in MACC’s investigations.

Shazni added the ‘U-turn’ by PAS to pledge its support for Dr Mahathir shows that the party agrees with the policies implemented by the Pakatan Harapan government.

“Amanah Youth wishes to ‘thank’ PAS as this proves that the previous allegations made by their leaders against Dr Mahathir’s administration were untrue and done merely for political sake,” he said.

Shazni’s statement came after PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan confirmed the party’s written pledge to give its full support to Dr Mahathir until the next general election.

On Friday, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and Dr Mahathir had a meeting, where PAS had formally stated it will not support Umno in the Semenyih by-election.

On Sunday, Dr Mahathir explained that PAS will not support Umno in the Semenyih polls because the candidate this time was from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and not DAP.
