SAN FRANCISCO: Samsung is celebrating a decade since the launch of its first Galaxy S smartphone with four new Galaxy S10 models, including one that supports 5G networks.

The Galaxy S10 5G, Samsung’s first flagship 5G smartphone, is claimed to be able to download a full season of a TV show in just minutes.

Users will also be able to play graphics intensive Cloud games with virtually no lag, and stay in touch with friends and family via real-time 4K video calls.

To take full advantage of 5G connectivity, it features the largest-ever screen on a Galaxy S series – a 6.7inch display.

“Samsung is leveraging a decade of industry leadership to usher in a new era of smartphone technolo- gy,” said Samsung Electronics president and CEO DJ Koh.

“Galaxy S10 builds on that incredible legacy, and delivers breakthrough display, camera and performance innovations.”

The other three models the electronics giant unveiled were the Galaxy S10, S10+ and S10e. The Galaxy S10 and S10+ have a 6.1-inch and 6.4-inch curved screen, while the S10e has a 5.8-inch flat screen.

Samsung claims the phones are the world’s first to use a dynamic Amoled display, and are HDR10 (high dynamic range) certified, allowing them to display vivid digital content, wider range of colours, and deeper blacks and brighter whites.

The Galaxy S10 and S10+ are also the first Samsung phones to feature an embedded Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner that reads the 3D contours of a physical thumbprint and not just a 2D image for improved security.

Both phones also feature triple cameras on the back – a 16-megapixel sensor with ultra-wide angle lens, 12-megapixel sensor with wide-angle lens and 12-megapixel sensor with telephoto lens.

The ultra-wide lens has a 123° field of view like the human eye, so what you see is what’s in frame.

On the front, the Galaxy S10 and S10e have a 10-megapixel selfie camera while the S10+ has an additional selfie camera – an 8-megapixel sensor.

The array of sensors and cameras on the front is packed into a pinhole to maximise screen real-estate and minimise distractions.

All three phones support Wireless PowerShare – they can wirelessly charge any accessory such as earphones that support the Qi standard.

The S10, S10+ and S10e are expected to be available on March 8 in Malaysia but Samsung has yet to announce the release date for the 5G model.

The Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10e are expected to be available in Prism White, Prism Black, Prism Green, Prism Blue, Canary Yellow and Flamingo Pink.

The Galaxy S10+ will also be available in two additional colours – Ceramic Black and Ceramic White.
