PJ City end veteran striker’s nightmare at Perlis

PETALING JAYA: Petaling Jaya (PJ) City’s new signing Safee Sali is just glad to have escaped the nightmare of being unpaid for three months.

Safee was initially signed by Premier League side Perlis for the 2019 season but they failed to pay their players’ salaries and have been booted out of the M-League.

The 35-year-old Safee thanked PJ City for the chance to don their colours and hopes that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and M-League organiser Malaysia Football League (MFL) will look into the plight of Perlis players.

“I had several offers but PJ City looked the most attractive ... I liked the team’s style of play and fighting spirit. On top of that, I had worked with coach Devan for three years when we were with Selangor (2009-2011),” said Safee after joining PJ City on the very last day of the transfer window yesterday.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of sharing my knowledge and experience with the youngsters in the PJ City team. I hope I can help the team win something this season.

“I’m happy the nightmare with my former team has ended. I’m lucky that there are teams who wanted to sign me. I pity the other players who have no where to go. I really hope FAM and MFL can extend the transfer window for them to leave Perlis and join other teams.”

Yesterday, Super League debutants PJ City also unveiled new sign- ing Sergio Filho from Brazil. The midfielder will replace striker Giancarlo Rodrigues who has been loaned out to PKNP.

The two new signings – Safee and Filho – are expected to be fielded against league leaders Kedah in a Super League clash at the Petaling Jaya Stadium tomorrow.
