Robber killed after attempt went awry

TAPAH: An attempt by a man to rob his neighbour’s house in Taman Orkid Jaya in Sungkai near here went awry and he ended up dead.

Tapah OCPD Supt Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said A. Govan, 31, was found dead in the house on Tuesday at about 3.15am.

“We received a call about an argument that broke out at the house at about 2.45am. We found bruises on the man’s lips, eyes, head and body,” he said yesterday.

Medical officers confirmed the death when they arrived at the scene, he added.

Supt Wan Azharuddin said six men from Pakistan aged between 27 and 38 were staying in the house.

“Based on our investigat­ion, the victim and two others – one of them armed with a machete – had tried to rob the six men who had been staying there for about two months.

“One of the foreigners managed to stop the armed assailant with his left arm and was injured in the process. There was a brief scuffle before the victim was caught by the foreigners.

“The victim’s accomplice­s have yet to be identified and we are looking for them,” he said, adding that one of the foreigners had lodged a police report.

According to police report, the foreigner had alleged that they were chatting in the living room when the three men entered with a machete to attack them.
