RM10,000 rental a sniff for foreigners

-

FOREIGNERS are illegally renting kiosks meant for local traders along Jalan Petaling, better known as Chinatown, and in Bukit Bintang, Harian Metro reported.

A source told the daily that the foreigners, who were mostly from Pakistan and Bangladesh, were renting the kiosks at an inflated price of about RM10,000 per month from locals.

The source from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minis- try said RM10,000 monthly was not steep for the foreigners as their profits were high.

“They are good in selling counterfeit goods,” said the source, adding that they could earn between RM200,000 and RM300,000 in profit from a container of shipment worth RM20,000 to RM50,000 from their home countries.

The source said locals, who owned the licences, were making easy money by renting the kiosks to foreigners.

The source admitted that it was difficult for enforcement personnel to stop the activity as the foreigners would disappear and the locals would be manning the kiosks during the raids.

> The daily also reported that an 18-year-old college student in Kuala Kurau, Perak, was killed when a coconut tree fell on him.

During the 2.30pm incident on Saturday, Mohammad Ridzuan Abdul Rani was riding his motorcycle back to his house in Kampung Sungai Darat in Kuala Kurau from Kerian Vocational College.

It was when he was riding past Kampung Parit Abas that a coconut tree fell on him.

Villagers who rushed to help found Mohammad Ridzuan pinned underneath the tree.

His father Abdul Rani Amran, 46, said his son had gone to college to finish his assignment.
