Centreback Michal sees the Red Giants awakening soon

-

PETALING JAYA: Vietnamese Michal Nguyen believes Selangor will be a force to be reckoned with this season.

Even though the team have lost two matches and drawn three games in the Super League, the 29-year-old centreback said the Red Giants had grown closer and it would be a matter of time before they end their winless run.

The Czech Republic-born Michal said the team’s resurgence would start when they clash with Kuala Lumpur on March 10 at the Cheras Football Stadium.

“The players have the self-belief. We lost 4-2 to Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) on Friday (March 1), but we played better. The players showed more spirit, and we were dangerous at the front.”

After conceding 11 goals in five matches, fans and the team management are concerned about the team’s porous defence.

Michal promised to improve the defence and work on his communication with his other teammates.

“Every game, I try to give my best. The results have not been great, but we’re working hard to make sure Selangor do well again in Malaysian football,” he said.

“I’m working very hard to improve my combination with the other defenders.”

Michal was signed from Thai League club Air Force Central. He made his national debut in 2013 and has collected two caps.

The former Becamex Binh Duong player will not play against Kuala Lumpur as he is suspended after receiving three yellow cards in the last five matches.
