MACC to quiz GLC boss

Two PAS officials also to be questioned over RM90mil

-

PUTRAJAYA: The chairman of a government-linked company will be questioned by graft investigators today in connection with the allegation that PAS received RM90mil from Umno, according to sources.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) sources say the Datuk will be hauled up with two PAS officials, one of them a former assemblyman in Selangor.

The other is believed to be a PAS official based at the party’s headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut.

The sources confirmed that the three were served notices yesterday and were ordered to be present at the MACC headquarters here at 10am.

“Yes, we will be recording their statements,” a source told The Star.

The sources said the Datuk would be grilled on how funds were found to have been moved from several accounts linked to him.

He would also be questioned on the RM1.4mil paid via cheque to the lawyer of Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle Brown as settlement for a suit brought against her by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

After the lawyer, Americk Singh Sidhu acknowledged that the RM1.4mil cheque was not from PAS or Abdul Hadi but a third party, PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli revealed the identity of the person involved.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan had denied any knowledge of the RM1.4mil payment.

Last week, Takiyuddin, spiritual leader Datuk Hashim Jasin and former Kuala Krai MP Mohamed Nasir Che Daud were questioned by MACC.

In 2017, Abdul Hadi sued Rewcastle Brown for libel in London over an August 2016 Sarawak Report article alleging that PAS received RM90mil to guarantee its support for Umno and Barisan Nasional.

Rewcastle Brown filed a counter-claim in October 2017.

On Feb 1, Abdul Hadi and Rewcastle Brown agreed to an outof-court settlement.

The Datuk would be grilled on how funds were found to have been moved from several accounts linked to him.
