Shafie to meet Dr M again on MA63
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal will be meeting Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today for the second meeting on Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Mohd Shafie said the meeting is a continuation of the special committee set up to look into the MA63 and its implementation.
He said the matters to be discussed will continue to revolve around major concerns such as Sabah’s rights, the 20% oil royalty and autonomy of oil and gas.
“I don’t want to spell it all out because this is still in the discussion stage but I am sure the efforts taken by the Prime Minister will result in the realisation of the MA63,” Mohd Shafie said after officiating an executive programme for MPs and assemblymen here yesterday.
Mohd Shafie said the Prime Minister had acknowledged that Sabah and Sarawak had formed the federation of Malaysia together and that Sabah and Sarawak should be given back their status as equal partners.
Earlier in the event, the Parti Warisan Sabah president said events such as this was important for the MPs and assemblymen, especially new ones to understand government policies, standard operating procedures and how the departments work.
“Every leader needs to understand their roles in the government and their departments well so that they can deliver according to standards and expectations of the rakyat,” he said.
Mohd Shafie said having the proper information about one’s duties is also important.
“We do not want to make mistakes just because we are ignorant about our own job scopes,” he said.
The Semporna MP added that as leaders who are chosen by the people, it is their duty to give their very best.
“We cannot ignore the grouses and problems that arise, we need to act on them and make sure issues are resolved as soon as possible,” Mohd Shafie said.
