Tournaments postponed as cops yet to give green light to NSAM
PETALING JAYA: The National Shooting Association of Malaysia (NSAM) President Ally T.H. Ong Trophy 2019 and the first SportsExcel Malaysian Junior Shooting Championships 2019 has been postponed as it has yet to get the approval from the police.
The National Shooting Range in Subang had been fenced up as part of police requirements to regulate security at the range.
NSAM executive secretary Hayati Shamsuri said they are still waiting for the green light even though they have done four visits to monitor the security aspects at the range.
“The competitions were supposed to be held from March 5 to 10 but we had to postpone as we are still waiting for the police to approve the security and firearm requirements.
“They have visited the range four times and we have complied to their requests.
“I hope they will speed the process because we need these competitions to make our selection for the SEA Games in December.”
The clubhouse is the training ground for the national and Selangor shooters and the permanent headquarters of the South-East Asia Shooting Association.
Meanwhile, two shooters Alia Sazana Azahari (25m pistol) and Johnathan Wong (10m air pistol) did not qualify for the finals of the ISSF World Cup Rifle-Pistol in New Delhi, which was held from Feb 20-28.
Alia posted a score of 578 to be ranked 23rd while Johnathan who posted 576 also finished 23rd. Only the top eight shooters qualified for the finals.
“So far, these are the only shooters who have taken part in competitions. We need the range to organise local competitions.
“I hope it can be approved as soon as possible.
“We are now looking at hosting the national championships in April.”
