Maya shocked by tree fire

‘The durian tree beside my house was fully ablaze’

( pic) panicked when a durian tree at her place in Kampung Sungai Penchala caught fire, reported Harian Metro.

In the incident on Tuesday morning, Maya was in her room at about

7am when her maid knocked on her door while yelling “Fire! Fire!”.

“Once I got out of the house, I was shocked to see that the durian tree beside my house was almost fully ablaze,” said the Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam actress.

Maya, who was alone with her maid, called the Fire and Rescue Department for help.

“After the fire was put out, the tree fell, but thankfully it went down beside the house and not on it.

“I’m still wondering how the fire started because the firemen were not able to find the cause,” she said.

The incident was discovered when 14 students between the ages of 15 and 25 tested positive for cannabis by the Klang district National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) in 2018.

Early investigations found that the drugs were being distributed by an outsider, said AADK assistant officer Mohd Faizal Mat Saat.

“The drugs are being sold for RM5 when the market price can fetch RM30 per packet,” he said.

He added students fall prey due to peer influence, curiosity and family problems such as divorce.

Judge Azman Mustapha meted out the sentence to Mohamad Harman Faiz Hassin, 28, from Kota Baru and also instructed him to attend counselling.

According to the charge, Mohamad Harman Faiz, who was studying at the teachers’ training institute in Terengganu, committed the crime at his hostel room on Sept 17, 2016.

He had asked the victim’s parents for permission to take the girl, who was his former pupil, to accompany him to pay utility bills in Jerteh.

After running the errand, he took the girl to his hostel room where he assaulted her.
