Just like a Turtle, Tcheche has started off slowly

-

PETALING JAYA: Terengganu captain Kipre Tchetche (pic) has assured fans that his goal drought in the Super League will end soon.

A key talisman last season, the Ivorian has yet to score after five games for the Turtles and rumours are rife that he received a warning letter from the management for his insipid performances.

Tchetche has denied the rumours but admitted the management spoke to him about his performances.

“I did not receive any letter from the management. However, I admit I’ve not been at my best,” said Tchetche.

“Coach (Irfan Bakti) has spoken to me and we discussed ways to solve my problem. My pre-season was tough because I had an injury, but I’m working hard every day to regain my form.

“I know the fans are talking about my performances but criticisms are part and parcel of football. I’m not under pressure because I know my capability. The goals will come, don’t worry.”

Last season, Tchetche scored a total of 24 goals in 33 matches in the Super League, FA Cup and Malaysia Cup.

The former Al-Suwaiq player was the team’s top scorer last season, followed by Lee Tuck (14) and Ashari Samsudin (7).

The 31-year-old wants to lead the team to their first victory at home when they meet star-studded Melaka today at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium.

Terengganu are sixth in the league with six points from five matches while fourth-placed Melaka have 10 points from five matches.

“Melaka are a good side, but I’m more concerned about my team. We aim to get our first three points at home. We got it in Kuala Lumpur. Now it’s time to make the fans in Kuala Terengganu happy.

“The team’s morale is high. The players are pumped up, and I personally want to do well in this match. My body finally feels good, and I’m much fitter now,” added Tchetche.

I know the fans are talking about my performances but criticisms are part and parcel of football.
