1,500 face masks dispatched for media reps
PASIR GUDANG: The Melaka state government has dispatched 1,500 face masks to media representatives covering the Pasir Gudang chemical pollution here.
Melaka Health and Anti-Drugs Committee chairman Low Chee Leong said the gesture was to show appreciation to reporters and photographers covering the volatile situation there.
“The rescue team and pressmen were among the first to arrive at the location and are exposed to the danger of toxic fumes.
“We appreciate their contributions in providing the public with the latest developments with regards to the situation,” he said.
He also expressed his disappointment over the incident which has compromised the people’s health.
“All community leaders need to act as one to help each other.
“We hope that these small contributions could help media representatives to stay safe while covering ground zero,” he said.
Low’s special officer Alan Neh, who transported the face masks from Melaka to Pasir Gudang Indoor Stadium, hoped the items would be put to good use.
“At times like this, it is important for everyone to go hand in hand and help each other.
“I hope the public could also show their support by contributing other basic necessities needed by the victims,” he said after handing over the items to media representative Norbaizura Basri, who is also Johor Bernama bureau chief.
